Conference "ICT in Local Government" national breakthrough

"You only have two options: ride the ICT revolution or take a walk into infinity." This was the opening statement of Hon. Lewis Nguyai, Assistant Minister for Local Government of the national conference ICT in Local Government on 3rd September 2009, Nairobi. The event offered ringing endorsement from the central government to those Councils that have already taken a lead in ICT, and strong encouragement to all others who are interested to proceed now. For the first time ever, the event brought all local government Councils together on an ICT agenda. The Councils were represented by the Clerks, Chairmen, Mayors and senior officers. Three champion Councils of Makueni County, Nakuru County and Nakuru Municipality presented their ICT Strategic Plans. These Plans are roadmaps for safe investment in ICT and are examples for all other Councils. The Conference was also supported by the e-Government Directorate of the Office of the President. The next ICT theme for the local government system is environment and economic planning, with use of geospatial information systems (GIS). More news on this soon.
